The "Mercedes-Benz Contact" function utilizes the hands-free system (via Bluetooth) and supports the service acceptance process in the service center or, at a later point in time, in the workshop as well, by switching to voice output and synchronously transmitting vehicle data.
The "Mercedes-Benz Contact" function consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Selecting fixed, reserved telephone book entry function sequence via the buttons on the mobile phone
^ Selecting fixed, reserved telephone book entry function sequence via the telephone buttons or the keypad on the "audio unit"
^ Selecting fixed, reserved telephone book entry function sequence via the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
^ Selecting fixed, reserved telephone book entry function sequence via the voice control system (VCS [SBS]), with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer, with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer

A signal tone is emitted after the voice control system has been activated.
The signal tone in vehicles with code (810) Sound system, is transmitted by the "audio unit" via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the amplifier for sound system (N40/3). From there, the signal tone is transmitted over direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/4)
- Left front door speaker (H4/5)
- Right front door speaker (H4/6)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Left front door tweeter (H4/33)
- Right front door tweeter (H4/34)
- Left rear door tweeter (H4/35)
- Right rear door tweeter (H4/36)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)
The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker (H4/29) travels over MOST from the "Audio equipment" to the sound system amplifier and from there, over the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9), via direct lines, to the subwoofer speaker.
In vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the signal tone is transmitted directly from the "audio unit" via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left front door tweeter

After an active call has been established to the service center, the user starts the data transfer.
The data is transferred after the call has been established by actuating a number key on the keypad of the "audio unit". The control signals of the telephone keys or the keypad on the "audio unit" are processed internally.
For data transfer purposes, the "audio unit" checks the kilometer reading and the maintenance computer information of the instrument cluster via interior CAN.
In vehicles with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio, with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer, with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer, the navigation data is transmitted additionally by the navigation module integrated in the "audio unit".
The data is transmitted by the "audio equipment" by means of Dual Tone Multiple Frequency (DTMF) tones to the service center in the same way as when the call has been established successfully.
After the data has been transferred to the service center, the user can talk to an employee at the service center or the workshop. The transmitted data is then available to the employee. The voice input in hands-free mode is registered by the hands-free system microphone group and forwarded via a direct line to the "audio equipment".
The voice output in vehicles with code (810) Sound system, is conducted by the "audio unit" to the amplifier for sound system via MOST. From there, the voice output is transmitted via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
- Left front door tweeter
- Right front door tweeter
- Left rear door tweeter
- Right rear door tweeter
- Left rear surround speaker
- Right rear surround speaker
The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker travels via MOST from the "audio equipment" to the sound system amplifier and from there, via the subwoofer amplifier, along direct lines to the subwoofer speaker.
When in "private mode" the user can make a telephone call without other vehicle occupants being able to hear the conversation. The system switches to "private mode", when the mobile phone is removed from the cradle.

The telephone call is terminated by pressing the "END" button on the "audio unit" or by activating the "END" function in the "Telephone (Tel)" base function. The control signals of the telephone keys or the keypad on the "audio unit" are processed internally.
Function sequence, terminate call over multifunction steering wheel button groups
The accept/terminate phone call button terminates the telephone call. The control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups are forwarded to the "audio unit" via the following components:
- Steering LIN
- Steering column tube module
- Engine compartment CAN
- Instrument cluster
- Interior CAN
Terminate call function sequence over the service center
The employee in the service center or the workshop can also terminate the telephone call. This procedure will run externally.
Terminate telephone call function sequence in hands-free mode with the service center
After a phone call has been terminated, the "audio unit" interrupts the transmission or reception of the mobile phone signals or data. This takes place internally in the "audio unit".
