Component Identification:

The SDAR control unit is installed underneath the right seat of the 2nd seat row. The associated SDAR antenna (A2/93a5) is integrated in the roof antenna module (A2/93).

The SDAR antenna receives the signals from satellites and from terrestrial filling stations (usually in cities). The signals are transferred to the SDAR control unit over coaxial cable. The SDAR control unit decodes the signals received and transfers them via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3). Here, they are further processed into signals for the display and signals for the audio amplifier. The COMAND operating, display and controller unit accomplishes the control functions for the SDAR control unit.

Since modification year 07/1, the SDAR control unit (3rd generation) has been used; it is now also available for vehicles with code (460) Additional parts, Canadian vehicles. The properties of the SDAR control unit (3rd generation) differ from the those of the preceding generations in the following:
