GF07.04-P-6010BK Component Description For The Crankshaft Position Sensor
Location
The crankshaft position sensor is located behind the left cylinder bank.
Task
The crankshaft position sensor records the crankshaft position via the teeth of the drive plate (incremental wheel) without any contact and detects the engine speed.
Design
It consists of a plastic housing with an internal inductive coil and a 2 pole plug contact.
The distance between the crankshaft position sensor and the teeth of the drive plate is specified by the installation position (approximately 0.8 mm).
Function
The leading edge (a) of a tooth generates a positive voltage pulse, whereas the trailing edge (b) generates a negative voltage pulse. The distance from the positive to the negative voltage peak equals the length of a tooth.
The gap (c) produced by 2 missing teeth results in no voltage being generated in the crankshaft position sensor. This gap is used for detecting the TDC position of cylinder 1 and 6.
