Fuel Level Sensor: Description and Operation
Component Description Of Fuel Level Sensor
Component Identification:
Location
One fuel level sensor is mounted in each fuel tank chamber.
Task
Determines the fuel level for the following functions:
- Misfiring detection
- Leakage check of regeneration system
- Fuel level display.
Function
Each fuel tank chamber has one fuel level sensor (float-and-lever sensor with two wiper contacts). Both the voltage signals (resistance values) are transmitted separately to the rear SAM control unit, which processes the signals accordingly and transmits them to the instrument cluster over the CAN databus.
Design
Each fuel level sensor consists of:
- Lever
- Float
- potentiometers (sliding contacts).
