SUBJECT: Model 164.871, Up to VIN A126315 with Code 890 (Power Tailgate)
Power Tailgate Does Not Function Correctly

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the conditions listed below when trying to operate the Power Tailgate, the wire for the angle recognition potentiometer may be pinched between mounting plate and hydraulic cylinder.

- Power Tailgate not opening properly

- Power Tailgate not functioning correctly

- Power Tailgate stiff movement

- Power Tailgate not closing properly

NOTE: Fault Code 9502 [The connection to component B24/16 (Rear-end door opening angle recognition sensor) is interrupted or has short circuit] may be stored in Rear-end door closing control unit (N121/1).

1. Remove automatic rear-end door hydraulic unit by following steps 1 to 14 (except step 8) of WIS document AR72.20-P-3604GZ.

NOTE: DO NOT remove Rear-end door hydraulic pump (M51/1) or Keyless Go control unit (N69/5). Perform only step 1 - 14, except step 8.

2. Inspect wire (Figure 1, 1) for damage and repair as necessary as per WIS document AR00.19-P- 0100A.







3. Re-route wire (Figure 1, 1) over hydraulic cylinder (Figure 1, 2) and secure to hydraulic lines (Figure 1, 3) with cable tie (Figure 1, 4).

NOTE: Ensure wire is not kinked or over tightened by the cable tie.

4. Reinstall automatic rear-end door hydraulic unit in reverse order as per WIS document AR72.20-P- 3604GZ.

NOTE:
