GF82.10-P-1004GZ Cornering Illumination Function
- with CODE (615) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated curve illumination

Component Identification:

Function requirements for forward travel and standstill
^ Function in front SAM control unit activated
^ Circuit 61 On or engine running at > 300 rpm for longer than 2 s
^ Rotary light switch (S1) in "Low beam" or "Auto" position and
^ Rain/light sensor (B38/2) signals "DARKNESS"
^ Speed < 40 km/h (only valid for ECE and for activation via turn signal)
^ Speed < 60 up to 80 km/h (parameterizable) (only valid for activation via steering angle sensor (N49) and/or turn signal)
^ Turn signal via turn signaling function active and/or steering angle > parameterized steering angle switch-on value

Function requirements for reverse travel and standstill
^ Function in front SAM control unit activated
^ Circuit 61 On or engine running at > 300 rpm for longer than 2 s
^ Rotary light switch in "Low beam" or "Auto" position and
^ Rain/light sensor (B38/2) signals "DARKNESS"
^ Speed <40 km/h
^ Steering angle > parameterized steering angle switch-on value
^ Reverse gear engaged

Function
In addition to the low beam, the cornering illumination permits an improved illumination of the roadway in the turning direction. Cornering illumination represents an additional light function which is realized with the aid of special front fog lamps (cornering illumination with integrated front fog lamp function). The lamps are switched on and off with dimming, the respective dimmer ramps being separately adjustable.

While driving forward, each inside corner front fog lamp is switched on. When reversing, the opposite cornering front fog lamp is actuated.

Only one front fog lamp is actuated at one time, except for reverse travel when the parameterization has been changed to "Parking illumination Max". In this case both front fog lamps are actuated.

If, during forward travel, the request for right is present at the steering angle sensor, at the left and right turn signal switch (S4s1) or at both, then the right front fog lamp (E5/2) is actuated.

If the request for left is present at the steering angle sensor, at the turn signal switch or at both, then the left front fog lamp (E5/1) is actuated. During reverse travel, the cornering illumination is only activated via the steering angle and not via the turn signals.

The cornering illumination lamp remains active for as long as the function requirements exist. The left and right turn signal switch has priority over the steering angle sensor.

USA version: when the vehicle is stationary the cornering illumination lamps are shut off with dimming after a defined time delay. They are only switched back on when the vehicle is stationary by a renewed function request (turn signal and/or steering angle).

General
To avoid any temporary lighting up of the front fog lamps when the DIRECT SELECT gear selector switch (S16/13) is moved from position "P" to "D" via position "R", the message from the central gateway control unit is filtered out for 500 ms. A parameter is provided, which is responsible for a minimum switch-on period of the cornering illumination at below 40 km/h (one-touch turn signaling, parking, reversing). The minimum switch-on period starts with the cancel condition of the function. For the switch-on and off operation, a hysteresis is programmed, which prevents the cornering illumination from flickering when driving at the threshold of 40 km/h.
When accelerating into the curve, the cornering illumination is switched off between 60 to 80 km/h, depending on the parameter set.

If the lamp has been switched off using the rotary light switch and if the rotary light switch is then set back to "Auto" or "Low beam" position, then the cornering illumination lamps are only switched on again if the turn signal switch, the steering angle sensor or both permit this in terms of their parameters. If the circuit status changes from circuit 15 On to circuit 15 Off, the cornering illumination is switched off immediately with dimming.

In the following operating conditions, the cornering illumination will be switched off immediately without dimming:
^ USA version: High beam or front fog lamps are activated (does not apply to headlamp flasher)
^ Diagnosis
^ Activation of hazard warning flasher
^ Rotary light switch in position "0"

Treatment of fault
A malfunction of the cornering illumination is indicated in the instrument cluster. When the cornering illumination is combined with other light functions, only the error text for the affected lamps is displayed.

Possible error messages are:
^ Left fog lamp
^ Right fog lamp

When a fault is detected (fault present for more than 960 ms), the front fog lamp is switched off and the corresponding erroneous bit is set.

To prevent a loose contact from resulting in permanent shutoff, a renewed switch-on attempt is carried out every 5 s until the function requirements are met. After 10 switch-on attempts, the shut-off is permanent until a new function request occurs.
