The Ravigneaux gear set consists of the following components:
^ Short planet gears
^ Long planet gears
^ Small internal-geared wheel
^ Dual planet carrier
^ Sun gear (7)
^ Large internal-geared wheel

The front single planetary gear set consists of the following components:
^ Planetary gears (52)
^ Internal-geared wheel (12)
^ Planet carrier (13)
^ Sun gear (14)

The single rear planetary gear set consists of the following components:
^ Planetary gears (51)
^ Internal-geared wheel (9)
^ Planet carrier (10)
^ Sun gear (11)

Power flow in reverse gear, function
The following multi-disk brakes and multi-disk clutches are engaged:
^ Multi-disk brake BR
^ Multiple-disk brake B1
^ Multi-disk clutch K3

Ravigneaux gear set
The small ring gear is driven by the transmission input shaft. The long planetary gears roll over the stalled sun gear (7) and transmit the torque increased as a result and the rpm reduced as a result to the double planet carrier.

Single rear planetary gear system
The ring gear (9) rotates at the same rpm due to the mechanical connection with the double planet carrier. The planetary gears (51) roll on the sun gear (11). The sun gear (11) changes its direction of rotation due to the stalled planet carrier (10).

Single front planetary gear system
A connection of the sun gear (14) to the sun gear (11) exists via the engaged multi-disk clutch K3 As a result the sun gear (14) turns at the same rpm and direction of rotation as the sun gear (11) and drives the planetary gears (52). The increased torque and reduced rotational speed as a result are transmitted via the planet carrier (13) to the transmission output shaft.

The transmission output shaft thus rotates at reduced transmission input speed opposite to the direction of the engine.
