General information on voice control
The voice control system (VCS [SBS]) can be used to call up and operate the individual functions of the driver information system by voice control. The VCS is integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3). The system can be controlled by voice by spelling out or entering complete words.
Operating instructions
The VCS [SBS] is activated or deactivated via the following buttons on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL):
- VCS [SBS] on button (S111s4)
- VCS [SBS] off button (S110s4)
As of 1.7.09, when the voice control is active, the blower output of the blower motor (A32m1) will be reduced to avoid any misinterpretation during voice input. Regulation is carried out using the AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (N22) (without code (581) Comfort automatic air conditioning) or the comfort AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (N22/7) (with code (581) Comfort automatic air conditioning).
Voice control function sequence
The control signal from the VCS [SBS] on button and the VCS [SBS] off button is transferred to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following path:
- Steering LIN
- Steering column tube module (N80)
- Engine compartment CAN
- Instrument cluster (A1)
- Interior CAN
Voice input is made via the accompanying handsfree system microphone group. The words spoken are converted into an electrical signal by the handsfree system microphone group and routed to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via direct lines.
On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, voice output is performed by means of audio signals by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the amplifier for sound system (N40/3) and from there, via direct lines, to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker (H4/5)
- Right front door speaker (H4/6)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/4)
- Left front door tweeter (H4/33)
- Right front door tweeter (H4/34)
- Left rear door tweeter (H4/35)
- Right rear door tweeter (H4/36)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)
The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker (H4/29) travels from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the sound system amplifier via MOST and from there, over direct lines, to the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9) and then to the subwoofer speaker.
In vehicles without code (810) Sound system, voice output is sent by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit using audio signals via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left front door tweeter
- Right front door tweeter
- Left rear door tweeter
- Right rear door tweeter
