GF91.60-P-4043RT Rear Emergency Tensioning Retractor Component Description

Component Identification:

The emergency tensioning retractors of the left/right 2nd seat row with their squibs (left 2nd row ETR [GUS] squib and right 2nd row ETR [GUS] squib) are each located on the C-pillar.

The emergency tensioning retractor takes up the belt slack in the event of
^ a frontal collision,
^ a rear collision or a
^ rollover along the longitudinal vehicle axis

and prevents any free travel, the so-called film reel effect of the seat belt.

The close-fitting seat belt means that vehicle occupants are exposed to the deceleration forces acting on the body at an earlier stage.

The burn-off gas caused by ignition of the squib generates a gas pressure and thus rotation of a piston. The rotation then actuates the emergency tensioning.
