Back-In Parking mode
In the Back-In Parking mode the driver is visually assisted in all maneuvering situations, in which backing up or back-in parking is required. This includes parking at a right angle to the direction of travel.
Function requirements:
^ Circuit 15 ON
^ Reverse gear engaged (DIRECT SELECT gear selector switch "R")
System start
Once the driver has brought the vehicle into position, he/she starts the backup camera system (RFK) by engaging reverse gear. The display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) shows the driver a current image of the area to the rear of the vehicle with lines superimposed to support the driver and for orientation purposes.
Component Identification:
Virtual extension of vehicle longitudinal axis (blue extension line)
This extension line represents a virtual extension of the vehicle. The distance between the two lines is slightly more than the vehicle width.
Virtual steering angle (yellow extension line)
As soon as the driver turns the steering wheel, this yellow extension line is displayed. It indicates the direction to the driver, which the vehicle would take with the currently set steering angle This curve is automatically adapted to the situation as the steering angle changes. The distance between the two lines is slightly more than the vehicle width.
In order to park, the driver must only adapt the steering angle until an outside line of the yellow extension curve on the display virtually touches the parking space marking.
This parking space marking can, e.g. be another vehicle or a line on the asphalt. The driver must then continue backing up and adapting the steering angle until the displayed parking space limits run parallel to the current direction of travel.
Next the driver must turn the steering wheel back into the straight- ahead position in order to drive in a straight line up to the final parking position in the parking space.
Component Identification:
With the steering wheel at the straight-ahead position (steering angle = 0°) the yellow extension line lines up with the green extension line. As soon as the lines match up the green extension line is no longer displayed.
The distance lines inform the user of the distances from the vehicle bumper to the obstacles.
The backup camera system (RFK) does not incorporate acoustic information and warning messages for back-in parking mode.
