The front SAM control unit is located under the front passenger seat on the right next to the battery.

Task
The front SAM control unit has the following tasks:
^ Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
^ Evaluation of input factors Control of systems
^ Actuation of components
^ Switching of relays
^ Switching internal relays

Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
The input factors are read in with the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ Interior CAN (CAN B)

Direct line
The signals from the following components are read via a direct line:
- Left rear power window switch (S21/3)
- Right rear power window switch (S21/4)
- Hall sensor of left rear power window motor (M10/5)
- Hall sensor of right rear power window motor (M10/6)
- Brake fluid indicator switch (S11)
- Parking brake switch (S12)
- Coolant level indicator switch (S41)
- Windshield washer system fluid level indicator switch (S42)
- Right front brake pad contact sensor (S10/2)
- Right rear brake pad contact sensor (S10/4)

Interior CAN
The signals are read-in by the front SAM control unit over the interior CAN.
The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.

The front SAM control unit controls the following systems:
- Wiper system
- Exterior lighting
- Headlamp cleaning system (with code (600) Headlamp cleaning system)
- Footwell lighting
- Washer nozzle heater (with code (875) Heated windscreen washing system)
- Seat heater (with code (873) Seat heater, left and right front seat)
- Power windows in the rear
- Left rear door lock
