Route guidance by means of voice output, general
The route guidance through voice output function is an assistance function that assists the driver without distracting him from the traffic. The destination-oriented navigation of the navigation system is supported by voice outputs with the following information:
- Direction information
- Name of road onto which the next turnoff should be made
The following languages are available for voice output (without code (ZU9) China version):
- German
- English (UK and USA)
- French
- Spanish
- Italian
In addition, the following languages can be selected in vehicles without code (ZU8) USA version:
- Dutch
- Danish
- Swedish
- Portuguese
- Turkish
- Russian
- Chinese
Further voice outputs take place at the start of the route calculation, when an intermediate destination has been reached, or when the destination has been reached. In vehicles without code (ZU8) USA version, for dynamic route guidance, additional voice messages are issued in response to routes influenced by traffic messages.
Operating instructions
The route guidance via voice output function can be operated using the following components:
- Control buttons on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit
- Voice control system (VCS [SBS])
During an active voice output the volume of the announcement can be adjusted by the following components:
- Control buttons on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit
- The + and - button for setting specific functions and volume control of the right multifunction steering wheel button group
Function sequence for route guidance through voice outputs
The navigation processor of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit links word segments during voice output to form complete instructions or information and generates speech signals.
The audio signals are forwarded, if necessary, via MOST to the sound system amplifier (with code (EU9) Surround sound system (harman/kardon Logic 7)), where they are amplified and output to the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left rear speaker
- Right rear speaker
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
- Subwoofer speaker
- Left cockpit tweeter
- Right cockpit tweeter
- Left rear door tweeter
- Right rear door tweeter
On vehicles without code (EU9) Surround sound system (harman/ kardon Logic 7), the audio signals are output by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left rear speaker
- Right rear speaker
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
- Left cockpit tweeter
- Right cockpit tweeter
