1 Turn differential assembly several times while applying light blows to bearing cap and differential using a plastic mallet.
This is to ensure that the rollers of the tapered roller bearings align and settle.
2 Wrap cord around the differential assembly several times.
3 Attach spring balance (3), pull on cord and measure friction torque.
Use spring balances up to 6 kg.
4 Pull on spring balance (3), spin differential assembly and read off friction torque on spring balance (3).
The difference between the measured friction torque and specified friction torque must be corrected using the appropriate shims.
