Mobile telephone system, general
A distinction is made between the following 2 versions for the mobile phone system:
- Basic telephony
- Comfort telephony
Both versions use Bluetooth technology for data transfer. Using Bluetooth, it is possible to connect modern communication devices, such as PDAs or laptops, to the phone system quickly and easily. Bluetooth is a worldwide open standard for connecting Bluetooth devices wirelessly and is based on radio technology in the 2.4 GHz range.
One advantage of Bluetooth, next to the availability of Bluetooth devices that is already quite wide today, is the uncomplicated and spontaneous connection of Bluetooth devices to a Bluetooth network (ad-hoc network). The extremely high data security (128-bit encoding) and the relatively limited radius (approx. 10 m) of such a network is what makes the use of Bluetooth in the vehicle interesting.
For a Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone which is authorized on the audio unit to be operated in the vehicle, the mobile phone must support Hands Free Profile (HFP) 1.0 or 1.5. More information is available at:
The mobile telephone system consists of the following subfunctions, which are described in separate documents:
^ Telephone switch-on/switch-off characteristics, function
^ Placing/ending phone call, function
^ Accept call and reject call with the mobile phone system, function
^ Mercedes-Benz Contact, function (without code (494) USA version)
^ Short Message Service (SMS), function (with code (386) Mobile phone comfort telephony or code (389) Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface USA/Canada)
^ Voice control function (with code (511) Audio 50 APS incl. DVD changer or code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer)
The system is described using the comfort telephony as an example. Differences from the basic telephony are marked by the symbol.
PHONE BOOK
Telephone book entries stored in the audio equipment are managed in the telephone book. In addition, the telephone book entries can be loaded into the telephone book in the audio device (external data), whereby they are available permanently when the mobile phone is no longer in the vehicle. External telephone book entries can be deleted separately. A telephone connection can be established directly from the telephone book entry.
The telephone book entries are displayed in the audio-/COMAND display (A40/8). Navigation in the telephone book is possible on the audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9).
Vehicles with basic telephony:
If the mobile phone supports the Bluetooth profile "Phone Book Access Profile", the entries can be stored in the telephone book using the function "Import contacts".
If this is not the case, they must be transmitted with the function "Receive calling cards"
Access to the telephone book in the mobile phone is read only.
Address book (with code (525) Radio MB Audio 50 APS or code (511) Audio 50 APS incl. DVD changer or code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer) or code (528) COMAND incl. DVD changer)
In addition to the telephone book entries it is possible to manage address data in the address book. All names with telephone numbers in the address book entries stored can be displayed. If an address book entry does not have telephone number, it does not appear in the telephone book,
The address entries stored in the "audio unit" and the data loaded from the mobile phone's phone book are displayed in the address book.
The Bluetooth interface of the mobile phone and the Bluetooth antenna (A2/91) can be used to transmit data from other external devices (e.g. PDA, laptop, etc.) into the address book. These are then permanently available as an entry. The address-relevant applications for telephony can be started directly via the entries and provided with the data stored. Navigation in the address book is possible on the audio/COMAND control panel ().
Entries in the address book can contain the following information:
- Names (surname and first name)
- Postal addresses (private or business)
- Telephone numbers (private, business, fixed-line network, mobile or car)
- Geo position (private or business)
- Company name
On vehicles with voice control system (VCS) (with code (511) Audio 50 APS incl. DVD changer or code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer), it is possible to provide 50 entries with voice commands.
The address entries can be deleted according to type:
- Single entries
- Entries loaded down from mobile phone
- Entries imported from "vCard
- Manual entries
- All entries
