Auto pilot system (APS), general
The radio with auto pilot system (A2/56) is the central operating unit for the entertainment and communications systems integrated in the vehicle.

The mobile phone function is available as a separate function description and is therefore not described here.

The auto-pilot system consists of the following subfunctions, which are described in separate documents:
^ Volume/tone settings, function
^ Navigation mode, function
^ Audio mode, function
^ Media interface function (with code (518) Media Interface)
^ Digital audio broadcasting (DAB), function (with code (537) Digital radio)
^ Voice control, function (with code (511) AUDIO 50 APS incl. DVD changer)

The display and menu display of the auto-pilot system are indicated by the audio-/COMAND display (A40/8). The following requests are also displayed in the instrument cluster (A1) at the same time as being displayed in the Audio/COMAND display:
- Audio (e.g. "RADIO", "DISC")
- Navigation ("NAVI")
- Telephone ("TEL")

The radio with auto pilot system supports the following control units, which are available as special equipment:
- Sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) (with code (810) Sound system)
- Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit (N87/3) (model 204.0/2 with code (537) Digital radio)
- Media interface control unit (N125/1) (with code (518) Media interface)

The radio with auto pilot system functions as a gateway. It routes the signals from the interior CAN (CAN B) to the components on the telematics CAN (CAN A) and media-oriented system transport (MOST).
