Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) - Update Control Module Software
Daimler AG (DAG), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined the possible illumination of the SRS light following vehicle start. The functioning of the SRS is not impaired. An update to the software of the SRS control module software is available to correct this condition. Dealers will update the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) software at the next workshop visit. If the initial startup is interrupted, as outlined in the work instructions, the SRS control module is to be replaced
Prior to performing this Service Campaign:
^ Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.
^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.
Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.
Approximately 7,693 vehicles are affected.
Procedure
Note:
^ Use Xentry 01/10 with all associated patches or higher.
^ Follow the steps exactly as described in Xentry.
^ Connect battery charger (battery voltage >12.5V).
^ The vehicle must have SRS control module hardware version 08/24 for 204 870 70 26 in order for the flash to be valid for the campaign.
^ If the SRS software is version 08/24 00 the campaign has not been performed. If the SRS software was previously updated it would indicate SRS software 9/16 00
A. Perform Initial Startup in SRS Control Module
1. Connect Star Diagnosis to vehicle.
2. Perform initial startup in SRS control module: Select: Initial Startup with manual adjustment of new control unit (follow on-screen instructions).
Note:
Be sure to perform SCN coding.
3. If the initial startup is successful procedure is complete. If initial startup is interrupted with the following message in XENTRY (Figure 1), the initial start-up in the SRS control module cannot be performed. In this event, proceed to subject B.
Note (regarding XENTRY Display: "Possible remedy"):
^ "Process displayed error codes..." (There are none.)
^ "Please contact the Star Diagnosis Call Center." (Contacting the Star Diagnosis Help Desk is not required prior to changing the control module).
B. Replace SRS Control Module
1. Refer to WIS: AR91.60-P-0624CW.

^ Please be aware that only the part number(s) referenced in the Campaign Bulletin is/are approved for use to repair the vehicle. Repairs performed using any other part(s) will not have been performed in accordance with the campaign. Accordingly, warranty claims submitted with reference to an improper part number(s) will be denied.
