General
With basic telephony, the mobile phone must be switched on or off manually via the buttons on the mobile phone.
With comfort telephony, the mobile phone is switched on automatically by switching on the "audio unit" via a wake-up pulse from the "audio unit" or switched off via a corresponding signal or after a run-on time, set on the mobile phone, has passed. The "telephone switch-on.off characteristics" function consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Switch on function sequence
^ Switch off function sequence
^ Supplemental information
The system is described using the comfort telephony as an example. Differences from the basic telephony are marked by the symbol.
Switch on function sequence
The switch-on signal of the "audio unit" is transmitted to the cradle via a direct line and via the Bluetooth module.
The mobile phone is then switched on and supplied with power. If set on the mobile phone, the Personal Identification Number (PIN) is requested after the mobile phone has been switched on. The PIN query is displayed by the "audio unit" via the screen on the "audio unit" as well as via interior CAN to the instrument cluster (A1).
Depending on the prompt, the 4 to 8-digit PIN must be entered in one of the following ways:
- Telephone buttons on "Audio unit"
- Voice control system (VCS [SBS]), with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer, with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer
The control signals from the telephone buttons of the "audio control unit" are processed internally.
The control signals from the VCS are acquired by the hands-free system microphone group (A67b1) and forwarded to the "audio equipment" via a direct line.
Next, the "audio unit" transmits the PIN entry to the mobile service switching center via the following path:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
- Bluetooth module
- Cradle
- Direct line
- E-net compensator (A28/3)
- Direct line
- Telephone/cell phone/STH radio remote control antenna splitter (A2/53), with code (228) Stationary heater, and direct line
- Telephone antenna (A2/93a3)
After registering in the mobile telephone network, the name of the mobile telephone network is shown on the display of the mobile phone and on the display of the "audio unit" in vehicles except code (494) USA version or code (389) Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface, USA/Canada
In vehicles with code (494) USA version or code (389) Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface, USA/Canada, the display only takes place on the screen of the mobile phone. The mobile phone signals or data are received in the following way:
- Telephone antenna
- Direct line
- Telephone/cell phone/STH radio remote control antenna splitter, with code (228) Stationary heater, and direct line
- E-net compensator
- Direct line
- Bluetooth module
- Cradle
The display on the mobile phone's screen is forwarded internally. The signals to be shown on the display of the "audio unit" are transmitted in the following way:
- Bluetooth module
- Bluetooth antenna
- Direct line
- "Audio unit"
For basic telephony, the switch-on signal is processed internally in the mobile phone. The PIN inquiry, if set on the mobile phone, is only displayed on the mobile phone's screen. The PIN is only entered via the buttons on the mobile phone. The PIN entry is transmitted to the mobile service switching center and the registration confirmation is provided via the mobile phone's antenna. The mobile phone network name is also displayed just on the mobile phone's screen. The display of the PIN, of the mobile phone network name and the signals of the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally in the mobile phone.
Switch off function sequence
The switch-off signal of the "audio unit" is transmitted to the cradle via a direct line and via the Bluetooth module. The mobile phone is then switched off and power supply interrupted. Expiration of the run-on time configured in the mobile phone takes place internally in the mobile phone.
For basic telephony, the switch-off signal is processed internally in the mobile phone. If the rechargeable battery of the mobile phone is empty, the mobile phone is also switched off.
By switching off the mobile phone and then subsequently removing the SIM card, the mobile phone is taken out of operation. The SIM card may only be removed after the mobile phone has been deactivated in order to prevent permanent damage to the memory chip provided on the SIM card.
Supplemental information
The PIN serves to prevent any unauthorized use of the SIM card. The SIM card is locked after the PIN has been entered incorrectly 3 times. The SIM card is enabled again by entering the personal 8- digit Personal Unblocking Key (PUK) using the buttons on the mobile phone for basic telephony and comfort telephony.
This allows entry of a new PIN number. If the PUK is entered incorrectly 10 times in succession, the SIM card can no longer be used and a new SIM card must be applied for from the service provider.
