The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit N123/1) can be used to operate various portable CTELs, e.g. Nokia, Siemens and Motorola, in the vehicle.
Only the respective UPCI portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) has to be replaced to do this.
The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system consists of the following components:

The corresponding portable CTEL is connected to the vehicle's MOST bus via the UPCI [UHI] portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) and the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit.
The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) system contains the following functions:
^ Establish phone calls in hands-free mode
^ Displaying WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) via the portable CTEL in the display (e.g. COMAND operating, display and controller unit with COMAND APS (with navigation), code 527)
^ In the event of absence, a voice mail (United States of America) will be sent by the provider for the call. This message is indicated by an icon at the top right or on the display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit.

The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system is activated via the On/Off button on the portable CTEL or automatically by a wake-up pulse via the MOST bus. Automatic activation can be initiated by the COMAND operating, display and control unit or when status "C. 15 ON".
The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system is deactivated using the On/Off button on the portable CTEL or automatically after the run-on time set on the portable CTEL.
Voice input is via the hands-free system microphone group.
Voice output occurs via the audio speaker system. In order to ensure the user voice input is as undistorted as possible via the hands-free system microphone group, the volume of an active audio source is automatically muted during a telephone call.
The volume of the audio speaker system can be set individually by the user. This is possible via the + and - buttons, setting of specific functions and volume control, integrated into the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) or via the portable CTEL. The functions are indicated by a number of displays providing the user with information on the operating status of the portable CTEL (e.g. "PIN ENTERED") on the display in the following components :
^ Portable CTEL display
^ Display on the radio and navigation unit or on the COMAND operating, display and control unit
^ Display on the instrument cluster
The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system is compatible with the D-Net and the E-Net. This is made possible by installing the E-net compensator, which compensates for the damping that occurs because of the higher frequency of the E-net.
