Component Identification:
Location
The AIRmatic central reservoir charge valve is located in the AIRmatic valve unit on a bracket behind the right bumper.
Body
The AIRmatic valve unit contains the following valves:
- Left front level control valve (Y36y1)
- Right front level control valve (Y36y2)
- Left rear level control valve (Y36y3)
- Right rear level valve (Y36y4)
- AIRmatic central reservoir charge valve
Task
The AIRmatic central reservoir charge valve is required for charging of the AIRmatic central reservoir by the AIRmatic compressor unit (A9/1).
Function
If the AIRmatic control unit (N51) registers inadequate pressure in the central reservoir via the AIRmatic pressure sensor (Y36b1), the AIRmatic compressor unit and the AIRmatic central reservoir charge valve are switched on. The generated compressed air is then supplied to the central reservoir until the cutoff pressure is reached, then the AIRmatic compressor unit and AIRmatic central reservoir charge valve are switched off. The function is active as from a velocity of v greater than 40 km/h (starting from a low speed) or up to a velocity of v greater than 20 km/h (starting at a high speed). If the supply of compressed air is to be used for raising the vehicle, then the AIRmatic central reservoir charge valve and the corresponding Level valve are opened. Now the compressed air can escape into the corresponding bellows.
