Component Identification:
"Power flow" refers to the transmission paths of driving power and engine torque. The engine torque is transmitted to the drive wheels via the mechanical-hydraulic connection of the engine, torque converter, automatic transmission as well as the transfer case and the front and rear axle differential.
The input torque to the transfer case is transmitted to the central differential module (5) via the input shaft (1). In the central differential module (5) the torque is transmitted from the sun gear (5d) to the planetary gears (5c) and the planetary gear pins (5b). The planetary gear pins (5b) are connected to the differential housing (5a) and move the differential pins (5f) and differential bevel gears (5g).
Depending on the gear ratio adjusted the engine torque is distributed to both differential side gears (5e, 5h) via the planetary gear set rotating as a unit with a gear ratio of 1:1 "High" or via sun gear (5d), planetary gears (5c) and ring gear with a step-down ratio of 2.93:1 "Low".
When the interaxle differential lock clutch pack (3) is closed the differential housing (5a) and front differential side gear (5h) are locked together.
The rear differential side gear (5e) is connected directly with the output flange of the rear axle (6), the torque being transmitted to the rear axle via the propeller shaft.
The front differential side gear (5h) is connected to the sprocket of input shaft (2) and to the output flange sprocket of the front axle (9) via the chain (11), the output torque being transmitted from the output flange of the front axle (10) to the front axle via the propeller shaft.
The torque distribution with unlocked differentials is 50:50.
