1. Clean injection line connections and delivery valve holder on injection pump.

2. Disconnect vacuum line from engine shut-off vacuum unit.

3. Unscrew injection line for cylinder #1 from delivery valve holder and nozzle.




4. Unscrew delivery valve holder (1) from injection pump element #1. Remove compression spring (3) and delivery valve body (4).

Note: For checking injection pump timing, the copper sealing ring (5) and the delivery valve body (6) must remain installed to prevent fuel from flowing continuously even if pump is set to the correct timing position.





Caution: Do not unscrew flange bushing (2) since this will require a basic fuel injection pump adjustment at an authorized R. Bosch service station.

5. Install delivery valve holder and tighten screw on overflow pipe.

6. Turn crankshaft in direction of rotation just before the start of delivery position in the compression stroke of #1 cylinder.




7. Open vent screw or hollow screw (2) on fuel filter and fill fuel filter with hand pump so that fuel flows out of overflow tube.




Note: Move control lever (1) on fuel injection pump against full throttle stop (2) while measuring.




8. Turn crankshaft in direction of rotation until fuel stream at overflow tube turns to drops. One drop per second.

9. In this position, read setting of fuel injection pump timing at graduation on balancing disc.
If not 24°±1°, Adjust fuel injection pump timing

10. Unscrew overflow tube and delivery valve holder




11. Remove delivery valve body (6). Check if delivery valve (4) moves freely in delivery valve body (6).

12. Insert delivery valve body (6) with groove on 0. D. in downward direction. Install delivery valve (4) and compression spring (3).

13. Slightly lubricate threads of delivery valve holder (1). Install and tighten to 40-50 Nm (30-37 ft. lb.) in one step.
