Campaign - Non USA Vechicles, New Service Life Sticker

REF. NO. 91/36

To: OUR MERCEDES-BENZ PASSENGER CAR DEALERS

DATE: September 1987

SUBJECT:
STICKER FOR AIRBAG SERVICE LIFE
NON-U.S. SPECIFICATION VEHICLES

On non-U.S. specification vehicles built up to October 1983 production, equipped with a driver airbag and front passenger seat belt emergency tensioning retractors, the service life sticker located in the glove box has a replacement date of six years from vehicle manufacture. It has been determined that the actual service life is at least ten years. For this reason a new sticker giving the updated replacement date must be placed on top of the old sticker during the next service visit of such vehicles.

NOTE:
Non-US driver airbags are identified with the wording "AIRBAG", not "SRS", on the center of the airbag.

For example, the sticker on a M.Y. 1980 vehicle has an airbag replacement date of 1986. During the next service visit, affix an airbag service life sticker with a replacement date of 1990 on top of the old sticker.

IMPORTANT:
When replacement of the airbag becomes necessary, the replacement airbag is supplied with a new airbag service life sticker which must be affixed on top of the old sticker(s) in the glove box.
