SUBJECT: MODIFIED CONNECTING LINK FOR THE TIMING CHAIN ENGINES 601, 615, 616 AND 617

FIGURE 1 A MODIFIED VERSIONB PREVIOUS VERSION:

A connecting link (A) which can be riveted is now available for the timing chain of the subject engines. The previous connecting link (B) with spring clip fastener should no longer be used. (Figure 1)
The modified connecting link can be recognized by:


- The link pivots not having grooves for the spring clip.


The outer plates of the modified connecting link assembly must be pressed on and riveted using a new assembly tool (tool no. 000 589 58 43 00)..
The previous assembly tool (tool no. 000 589 57 43 00) can be modified using a conversion kit (tool no. 000 589 58 43 80). The tool no. can then be changed to 000 589 58 43 00.

FIGURE 2:

Procedure

1. Press on the outer plate with the assembly tool as done with the previous version connecting link.

2. Reposition plunger (02) of assembly tool so that the notch (arrow) faces to the front (Figure 2).

3. Hold assembly tool by the handle and individually rivet the pivots to the plate (Figure 3).

4. Check riveting marks (arrows) and rerivet if necessary (Figure 4).

IMPORTANT: Stock of connecting links, part number 000 997 11 98 should be returned to the respective PDC no later than December 24, 1984.
