A/T - Valve Body Update Improves Partial Load Upshifts

SUBJECT: IMPROVED SHIFT QUALITY, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 722.3 MODELS 123.133/153/193 AND 126.120


This Service Information was revised to include the transmission end no. range for which the valve body repair kit is valid. Please discard your copy of MBNA 27/7, July 1984.

Since September 1983, a modified valve body has been installed to improve partial-load upshifts.

For transmissions with end numbers within the ranges below, there is now a valve body repair kit available to improve hard 1-2 and soft 3-4 upshifts:

NOTE: Before installing the repair kit, first check for correct adjustment of:

- control pressure cable
- vacuum control valve
- modulator pressure

Procedure

1. Remove and disassemble valve body (job no. 400 and 420).

2. Remove closing cover (87) and compression springs with valve (Figure 1).

3. Insert new K2 clutch valve (blue color) with compression springs (49 a and b, Figure 2).

NOTE: For compression spring dimensions see Technical Data.

4. Reinstall closing cover.

5. Remove closing cover (86) and compression springs with valve (Figure 3).

6. Insert new B1 brake band valve (52, yellow color) with compression springs (52 a and b, Figure 4).

7. Reinstall closing cover.

8. Assemble valve body using a new intermediate plate (supplied in kit).

9. Remove all screws from closing cover (84) except screw (82). Press down on pressure control valve (46) and swing out closing cover far enough to remove control valve (Figure 5).

10. Replace spring loaded pressure control valve (46 b, Figure 6).

11. Reinstall closing cover.
