Coolant Temperature Sensor / Switch HVAC: Service and Repair




REMOVING, INSTALLING AND TESTING TEMPERATURE SWITCH FOR COLD ENGINE LOCK
up to 08/85

Temperature switch:
Up to 11/82
- Cut-in point: 33 ±3 °C
- Cut-out point: 20 ±3 °C
As of 12/82
- Cut-in point: 37 ±3 °C
- Cut-out point: 21 ±3 °C


Tightening Torque:
Width between flats 19
- 15 ±3 Nm

Removal:
1. Open radiator cap.
2. Pull single-point coupling from switch (2) and unscrew switch.

Installation:
3. For installation proceed vice versa.

4. Check cooling system for leaks.
5. Check automatic climate control for function.

Checking:
The heater blower must not start up in heating mode (in-car ternpe~ture lower than temperature set on selector~ at engine coolart temperatures below 33 °C in "EC'~ position or 37 °C in "normal setting" position.

The heater blower must start up after coolant temperature has reached 33 °C or 37 °C.

If blower fails to start, pull 1-pole coupling from switch (2) and connect to ground.

If heater blower starts after approx. 10s, renew temperature switch.
