Checking Start of Delivery W/ Engine Not Running
RI Position Transmitter:
Engines OM 601 and 617.95 (as of January 1983 production)
If an approved engine analyzer is not available, the start of delivery can be checked with the engine not running (static test method), using the reference impulse (RI) position transmitter (08) as shown in Figure 2. Refer to service microfiche no. 2014 03 or 2023 01, job no. 07.1-111 and 116.
Screw the RI position sensor (07) into the governor housing. Slowly turn the crankshaft clockwise (viewed from the front) using tool nos. 001 589 66 21 00 and 001 589 65 09 00. Lamp "A" on the RI position transmitter will light up just before the test point is reached. As soon as the transmitter pin (2i) touches both edges of the RI position sensor, lamps A and B will light up. Read off the start of delivery from the TDC scale on the crankshaft.
