Axle Shaft - Decreased Tightening Torque

SUBJECT: MODIFIED TIGHTENING TORQUE FRONT AND REAR AXLE SHAFT MOUNTING MODELS 124 AND 201
As of February 1989 production, the rear axle shafts (as well as the front axle shafts of vehicles with 4-MATIC) are fastened to the shaft flange using a twelve-point collar nut (white anodized color). The new tightening torque is 200 to 240 N-m (previously 280 to 320 N-m).

Repair Note: When fastening the previous version nut (yellow anodized color) apply oil to its thread and contact surface between nut and shaft flange and torque to between 200 and 240 N-m.
