SUBJECT: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF WINDSHIELD AND REAR WINDOW MODEL 124

FIGURE 1:

FIGURE 2:

Two cutting knives are required for cutting through the adhesive bead when replacing the windshield (Figures 1-2).

Installation of the windshield has been simplified by using a variable speed, cordless caulking gun.

CAUTION! Observe all applicable safety rules and regulations when handling glass.
Procedure

1. Remove trim with a plastic wedge tool. Using a chisel remove the pop rivets which are used to fasten the clips securing the lower trim.

2. Using the cutting knife without the adjustable stop 124 589 21 63 00 (Figure 1), the lower horizontal adhesive bead of the windshield or rear window can be completely cut through from outside the vehicle, regardless of minor fit deviations.

3. Using the cutting knife with the adjustable stop 124 589 12 63 00 (Figure 2), cut the remainder of the adhesive bead of the glass from inside the vehicle.

Note: When using the cutting knife with adjustable stop, the stop serves only as a guide and should not be pressed against the steel edge (arrow) of the window opening when cutting the adhesive bead.
Installation

Note: Open at least one door window to prevent overpressure inside the vehicle.

4. A variable speed, cordless caulking gun can be used to apply the adhesive. The advantages are precise control of the adhesive bead and no interference of the power cord.
5. When installing the rear window, proper alignment can be made easier by first inserting the glass with trim in the window opening prior to the application of the adhesive. After it is properly positioned, apply two strips of masking tape to the top of the window and cut through them at the trim piece. Remove window glass and trim.

After applying the adhesive, install window glass and align so that each cut masking tape strip is aligned. This method can also be used when installing the windshield.

6. Allow a 4 hour set time for the adhesive. Do not slam doors closed. Be sure to open at least one door window before closing doors (preventing overpressure inside the vehicle).
