Ticking Noises In Valve Gear When Idling At Normal Op Temp
Cause/Remedy:
With the lower idle speeds of engines with energy concept, the rocker arm no longer contacts the crankshaft base circle with adequate spring force.
Adding a thicker thrust piece to the valve retainer. This increases the preload of the compression spring (7) in the hydraulic valve clearance compensating element.
Select the thrust piece so that when checking the basic adjustment with the test gauge 100 589 04 23 00, the measuring edge 2 is positioned at the upper edge of the red measuring groove 1 (see arrow).
If the element causing the noise cannot be located, all thrust pieces of the cylinder bank concerned must be replaced.
If the noise is not caused by the hydraulic elements, check the valve clearance in the valve guides.
