Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Fig. 37 Airflow Sensor Plug Terminal ID:

1. With engine stopped, disconnect airflow sensor connector located on the front right wheel housing between the turbocharger and the air cleaner.
- Check air flow sensor plate for free movement. The sensor plate must not bind, in any way, throughout its travel. If any binding is observed, replace the air flow sensor.
- Check the resistance between terminals 2 and 3, Fig. 37, of the airflow sensor.
If resistance is between 50 and 200 ohms in the idle position and 560 and 1100 in the fully open position, proceed to step 2.
If it is not, check the airflow sensor for contamination by dirt or binding.
- Replace the airflow sensor if it is clean and operates smoothly.

2. Turn ignition to the on position and check voltage between terminals 1 and 2 and between terminals 2 and 4, Fig. 37, of the airflow sensor connector.
- If voltage reading is 5 volts, components test good and the test is complete.
- If the voltage does not equal 5 volts, check for and repair any open circuit. If all circuits are good, replace the EDS control unit.
