Exhaust System: Testing and Inspection
1. With engine at operating temperature, connect the tester to test port on exhaust manifold. Ensure the shift lever is in "P", read test values at 4000 RPM. If two bar pressure is read, the system checks out ok, and the test is over. If two bar pressure is not read, proceed to step 2.
2. Remove the tester from the test port and place the shift lever in the second position. Drive the vehicle on a dynomometer or road at full throttle for two minutes. Check the exhaust gas back pressure at 4000 RPM in "P". If back pressure is less than 1.5 bar, exit this test proceedure and perform the EDS quick test. If the back pressure is greater than 1.5 bar, repeat this step. If the pressure is still greater thatn 1.5 bar, replace the trap oxidizer and perform the EDS quick test.
Note: If the customer returns with the same complaint within a relatively short period of time, find out if special driving conditions (e.g. frequent short distance driving, especially in colder climates or prolonged idling) exist. Check the following items before replacing the trap oxidizer:
1. Quick test the EDS
2. Linkage at full throttle
3. Air filter
4. Boost pressure
5. Fuel filter and prefilter
6. Fuel pump delivery
7. Fuel injection delivery begin
