Special Tools:

Replacing

1 Check contact surface of hub of belt pulley/vibration damper; if contact surface has grooves, use repair size radial seal with a sealing lip positioned to the inside.
2 Press out radial seal (295) with a screwdriver.

Caution! Do not damage crankshaft and mounting hole for radial seal; use clean rag as base.

3 Deburr edge of mounting hole for radial seal.
4 Oil sealing lip of radial seal (295).

Caution! Do not use grease! Grease prevents the sealing lip of the radial seal transporting back the engine oil.

5 Fit radial seal (295) onto the insertion sleeve (1) 601 589 03 14 00.
6 Push on insertion sleeve (1) 50 that the groove in the insertion sleeve (1) is aligned with the Woodruff key (2).
7 Pull in insertion sleeve (1) as far as the stop with bolt (9) and 3 dished washers (8).

Note: The radial seal must be positioned at right angles to the crankshaft journal otherwise proper sealing is not assured.

8 Install belt pulley/vibration damper.
9 Run engine, check for leaks.
