TO: OUR MERCEDES-BENZ PASSENGER CAR DEALERS

DATE: April 1987 (supersedes MBNA 77/1, Nov. 1986)

SUBJECT:
VINYL COVER OF SOFT TOP STORAGE COMPARTMENT LID
MODEL 107, ROADSTER

As of November 1985 production, the fastening of the cover of the soft top storage compartment lid has been modified. The new cover is cut wider and is glued in place plus additionally fastened with a total of 13 plastic plugs. Angle brackets are installed at the left and right side corner, and each is fastened with 3 of the plastic plugs.

A subsequent installation of angle brackets and plugs should always include the installation of new cover material, which is available by the meter and should accordingly be cut longer (oversized) than the removed cover, to allow for the material to fit under the angle brackets, and the lip of the compartment lid.

Procedure

1. Remove the old cover.

2. Using the angle bracket as plate (Figure 1, arrow), mark and drill 4.1 mm holes into storage well cover (Figure 2). Apply small amount of zinc dust paint to holes for rust prevention.

3. Cut new cover from stock material, allowing for extra material to fit under angle brackets, and the lip of the compartment lid.

4. Glue cover to storage compartment lid using MB Universal glue 000 989 82 71.

5. Punch holes through cover material at drilled holes.

6. Install angle brackets and plugs.

7. Trim cover material protruding from angle brackets as needed.
