Transmission Cooler: Service and Repair

NOTE:
The transmission air-oil cooler with blower is only required in vehicles with air conditioner or automatic climate control and trailer coupling if the trailer load amounts to over 1500 kg gross vehicle weight.

Removing and Installing

1. Remove front bottom section of noise encapsulation.
2. Seal off oil hoses (32, 33) on oil lines (19, 20). Remove clamp (22).

Installation Note
Check and correct transmission oil level of automatic transmission. Fit rubber grommet (34).

3. Unscrew bolts (25, 29) and nuts (27, 28), remove covering (26).





4. Unscrew nuts (23).

5. Unscrew bolts (24), then drain air-oil cooler with blower and blower housing a little and disconnect 3-pin plug connection.
6. Remove complete air-oil cooler.
7. Unscrew blower housing (12) with blower (13).

8. Check air-oil cooler (8) for damage and leaks. Check temperature switch (10).

NOTE:
The temperature switch may also be checked and replaced with the oil cooler in situ. To do this, the headlamp must be removed.
