Distributor: Description and Operation

Ignition Distributor Assembly:

The ignition distributor's only function is to conduct high voltage from the ignition coil through the ignition rotor to the proper ignition wire located on the distributor. It consists of the distributor housing, sealing disc, resistor rotor, distributor cap and cover. Each high tension terminal on the distributor cap incorporates a 1K ohm suppression resistor.

Rotor Advance Mechanism:

The high voltage distributor features a centrifugal force-dependent advance of the distributor rotor. This ensures that, even with extreme ignition angles, an adequate insulation gap is guaranteed between the distributor rotor and the adjacent distributor cap electrodes.
