Distributor: Service and Repair

Ignition Distributor Assembly:

REMOVAL

1. Remove the high voltage cover.
2. Unscrew the retaining screws and remove the distributor cap.
3. Rotate the engine until the rotor aligns with the TDC No. 1 marking on the distributor body. The pointer (8) on the timing case cover must be positioned above the TDC mark on the vibration damper (9).
4. Remove the ignition rotor and sealing cover (2).
5. Remove the retaining screw and lift out the distributor.

NOTE: For ease of installation do not rotate the engine crankshaft.

INSTALLATION

6. If necessary position the engine to TDC No. 1. TDC No. 1 is recognized when the rocker arms of the No. 1 cylinder are relieved (highest point of travel).
7. Reinstall the sealing cover and ignition rotor. Align the ignition rotor with the notch on the distributor housing.
8. Rotate the distributor shaft counter clockwise 90° from the notch on the distributor.
9. Insert the distributor and align the markings on the distributor rotor and housing accurately.
10. Tighten the distributor housing set screw.
