ALL MODELS WITH FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG CHILD PROTECTION WARNING LABEL

Beginning in M.Y. 1989, Mercedes-Benz vehicles started to be equipped with a front passenger airbag. Airbags pose a risk to rear-facing child seats (as required with infants). Due to the fact that the back of a rear-facing child seat is positioned near the airbag, the child seat could be struck with enough force by the deploying airbag to cause serious injury or even death to a baby.

Even older children are at risk from a deploying airbag if they are not properly restrained. All children are safest when properly restrained in the rear seats.





For this reason, MBNA is voluntarily installing a child protection warning label (Figure 1) on all new vehicles commencing end of April 1996. Affixing of the child protection warning label is shown. Until further notice, these child protection warning labels will be available to dealers and customers free-of-charge upon request.

If requested by an owner please affix child protection warning label to the right front passenger door interior panel (arrow, Figure 2).

IMPORTANT!
^ Surface must be clean, dry, and not colder than 50°F.
^ Clean area with rubbing alcohol if necessary.
^ Peel off backing and apply label to proper location (arrow, Figure 2).
^ Complete bonding of label takes 72 hours.

The affixed child protection warning label should be visible only when right front passenger door is open. This location was selected so that the label message is visible when the door is open, the critical time when an adult needs to make the right decision about their child. In addition, this will avoid the urge for front passenger to "pick and peel" the label when the car is in motion.

Each dealer will receive an initial supply of 250 child protection warning labels with this Service Information.
