SUBJECT:
PROTECTION COVERING FOR FRONT DOOR PNEUMATIC ACTUATOR AND DOOR LOCK LINKAGE MODEL 124

As of, November 1986 production, a protective plastic covering is installed over the front door pneumatic actuator and door lock linkage. This protective cover is designed to divert water away from the door lock assembly and pneumatic actuator and to also further enhance the security of the vehicle by reducing the possibility of gaining access into the vehicle through unauthorized activation of the door lock system.

Effective Serial Number

Due to this production change, the procedure for removal/installation of the pneumatic actuator has changed. Sufficient time has been provided to correctly remove and install the covering.

Procedure

Sedan and Wagon

1. Remove door panel (see Service Microfiche Body, Assembly Jobs I, Model 124, job no. 72-100).

2. Detach window from regulator and place window in lowest position.

3. Partially remove the weather-stripping channel from the window frame rail (arrow, Figure 1).

4. Loosen bolt (2) and remove plastic covering (1, Figure 2).

5. Remove actuator.

6. Reinstall in reverse order of removal.

NOTE:
If the covering is not installed correctly, the outside door handle may bottom out against the covering and not sit flush to the body. To help guide the covering into position, remove the plastic access cover for the anti-theft alarm system front door switch (S62/1 and S62/2), located on the rear of the front door. This opening provides a view of the covering and space for a screwdriver to guide and position the covering.

1. Remove door panel (see service microfiche Body, Assembly Jobs I Model 124, Job No. 72-100).

2. Loosen bolt (2) and remove plastic covering (1, Figure 3).

3. Remove actuator.

4. Reinstall in reverse order of removal.

See note above.
