This S.I. contains updated model applicability and identification information in regard to subject 1. Please separate S.I. MBNA 98/5 from the W.I. 231a and discard the S.I. ONLY.
1. Clear Coated Solid Color Paint Finishes
Models 124, 126 and 201 with Solid Color Paint
To eliminate paint pigment oxidation, the following selected solid colors are now being clear coated at the factory:

On those vehicles with clear coated solid color paint finishes, the color code on the chassis plate (on radiator cross member) has the letter "C" as a suffix (arrow, Figure 1).
When performing paint repairs on clear coated vehicles, follow the refinishing procedure outlined in the Work Instruction no. 231a.
Note:
Disregard the letter suffix "C" if it appears after a solid color paint code on any model 107 data plate. Clear coat was not applied to any solid color model 107 vehicle.
2. Application of Clear Coat as a Repair Method - All Models
Paint finishes can be repaired by applying a 2K top coat and a clear coat (high gloss). The procedure for the application of clear coat is described in the Work Instructions no. 231a.
