Examination of returned oil level sensors often indicates no faults in the component. To avoid unnecessary removal, this S.I. explains the operation and testing of the oil level indicator.
A. Function/Testing of the Low Oil Level Indicator
1. Function The low oil level indicator monitors the oil level in the oil pan when the engine is running and when the oil temperature is over 60~ C (under 60~ C there is no low oil level indication). The indicator lamp comes on when the ignition is turned on, and goes out as soon as the engine is running.
