Convertible - Checking for Wear on Locking Tabs

SUBJECT: SOFT TOP LOCKING TABS FOR WEAR MODEL 129

Excessive wear may occur on the soft top locking tabs due to the extreme clamping/sealing force exerted on the tabs. For this reason, the locking tabs should be inspected for excessive wear at every maintenance service (every 15,000 miles).
Procedure
1. Remove hard top if necessary.

2. Open soft top. Measure tab at worn spot(s) and unworn spot(s) using caliper (Figure 1).
3. If the measured wear difference between the worn(s) and unworn spot(s) is >/- 0.5 mm, replace locking tab.
This procedure will be included in the text for Maintenance under job number 7750.
Extra time may be charged in addition to the Maintenance Service time for vehicles that require R & R of the hard top. See Time Allowance 77-0402.
