Guide Rail in Crankcase

Removal and Installation (Engine 104.94/99 Only):

NOTE: Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

1. Remove timing case cover.

Engine 104.94/99:

2. Mark crankshaft sprocket (11) relative to timing chain (6) with a colored marking (arrows).
3. Remove tensioning rail (2).
4. Lift off timing chain (6) at camshaft sprockets (3) and (5).

NOTE: Pay attention to colored marking (arrows).

5. Pull off guide rail (18) at bearing pins (17) and (21).

NOTE:
^ Pay attention to colored marking (arrows) on crankshaft sprocket (11).
^ Check basic position of camshafts if necessary.
^ The plastic guide (sliding surface) is clipped into the guide rail (18) and can be replaced separately.
^ Projection of guide rail:
- Pin (17) at top with female thread 21 mm.
- Pin (21) at bottom 34 mm.
