Sealing Coolant Pump
NOTE: Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.1. Remove coolant pump.
2. Unbolt spiral housing (6).
3. Replace O-ring (7).
4. Fit puller (14) 000 589 94 33 00, or equivalent, onto impeller (5).
5. Tension jaws of puller with sleeve inner dia. 40 mm (shop-made) or suitable hose strap.
6. Pull off impeller (5).
7. Pull off mating ring (3) with pliers.
8. Press around circumference of cassette-type seal (4) with screwdriver to remove from coolant pump (1).
CAUTION: Do not damage coolant pump (1), use clean cloth as base.
9. Clean mount for cassette-type seal (4).
10. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Sealing compound is applied to the circumference of the cassette-type seal (4).
- Press In new cassette-type seal (4) with 40 mm diameter sleeve as far as the stop.
- Fit mating ring (3) onto pump shaft with ground face toward seal (4a).
- Heat impeller (5) to approximately 100° C
- Press impeller (5) on.
- Note size (a): 5.6 - 5.8 mm, see illustration.
- Check for a tight seat of impeller (5) on pump shaft.
- Tighten spiral housing (6) bolts to 10 Nm
