Removal and Replacement



Removing And Fitting Wheels, Rotating If Necessary










DANGER:
- Risk of fatal accident if the vehicle slips off the lifting platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.


1 Lift vehicle on lifting platform
2 Pull off wheel covers
3 Unscrew wheel bolts and remove wheels

4 Check wheel bolts

CAUTION: The radius seat of the wheel bolts must be free from oil and grease. Bolts with damaged threads, worn zinc plating on the radius seat or corroded radius seat must be replaced, otherwise they may shear off.

5 Check tires for damage and condition, and measure depth of tread

NOTE:
- See notes on measuring tire tread depth
- Observe notes on tires and rims

6 Check rims

NOTE: Check for:
- Dirt
- That the spherical caps are free from oil and grease
- Damage to centering, spherical caps and rim flanges
- Corrosion on contact surface

7 Check wheel hub and brake disk bowl on wheel contact surface for contamination and corrosion

NOTE: Clean corroded surfaces with a wire brush or emery cloth.

8 Rotate road wheels if necessary, maintaining the correct running direction

NOTE:
- This does not apply to vehicles with different tires of varying specifications on the front and rear wheels.
- Depending on the extent of wear after a distance of between 5,000 and 10,000 km.

9 Push on wheels and tighten wheel bolts
- All except model 210 with special protection version code (979)

10 Lower the vehicle, correct tire pressure of all wheels and fit wheel covers

NOTE:
- If there is a loss of tire pressure: determine cause and replace the tire if necessary.
- On vehicles with tire pressure monitor code (475): Only use plastic valve caps (risk of corrosion).

11 Fit wheel covers
12.1 Correct tire pressure of spare wheel
- Vehicles with spare wheel

NOTE:
- If there is a loss of tire pressure: determine cause and replace the tire if necessary.
- On vehicles with tire pressure monitor code (475)
- Only use plastic valve caps (risk of corrosion).

12.2 Check expiry date of TIREFIT tire sealant TIREFIT tire sealant
- Vehicles with TIREFIT

13 Activate tire pressure monitor
- On vehicles with tire pressure monitor code (475), Only when replacing a wheel, changing tires or altering the tire pressure.
