ETR Control Module with Airbag, Purpose
In the event of a collision the ETR control module with airbag (N2/2) assumes the following functions:
- Recognition and evaluation of the accident according to type and severity.
- Recognition of the switching state of the left and right front seat belt buckle/belt lock switch (S68/7, S68/8) at the moment of the collision (only for (USA) and models up to 6/93)
- Triggering the driver and passenger airbags
- Triggering the driver and passenger emergency tensioning retractors
- Triggering the driver and passenger side airbags (if equipped)
- Recording of up to three crash reports
- Shutting off the engine when the airbags are triggered (only on vehicles with common rail ejection (CDR))
During normal vehicle operation the ETR control module with airbag (N2/2) performs the following functions:
- Self-test when circuit 15R is "ON" and continuous system monitoring during vehicle operation.
- Storage of up to 5 recognized malfunctions in the DTC memory.
- Control of the SRS malfunction indicator lamp (A1e15) in the instrument cluster when a malfunction is recognized.
- Prevention of erroneous triggering during normal vehicle operation with additional safety sensor.
