Vehicle Damage Warnings

Important instructions for performing repair, body and welding work on vehicles with airbags and emergency tensioning retractors

1 Disconnect ground lead from battery and insulate and disconnect SRS test connector (X11/13) before starting any
- Body work
- Welding work
- Work on airbags and emergency tensioning retractors (removal, installation)
or
- Work on components connected to the airbags or emergency tensioning retractors or requiring manipulations in their electrical circuits, e.g. removal of steering wheel.

2 When painting
followed by baked drying there are no particular safety precautions to observe.
The airbags and emergency tensioning retractors can withstand temperatures up to a maximum of 100 °C without damage.

3 During repair work
Do not allow airbags or emergency tensioning retractors to come into contact with grease, oil or cleaning agents.

Always replace airbags and emergency tensioning retractors which have fallen from a height greater than 0.5 m and never install such components in a vehicle.

After completion of work on the airbags and/or emergency tensioning retractors always check the supplemental restraint system using the pulse readout according to the diagnostic literature. If the pulse readout is 1 no malfunctions are stored, i.e. the system is okay.

NOTE: The emergency tensioning retractors are not included in the pulse readout. They must be checked separately (resistance test).

NOTE: When one or both front seats are removed (connectors to belt buckles disconnected) the "SRS" indicator lamp comes on in ignition switch position 1 or 2 and goes out again after the seats are reinstalled. This is stored as a malfunction (pulse readout 5 or 6). In this case it is necessary to erase the memory.
