WINDOW ADJUSTMENT
Attached to this service information is a copy of Work instruction #256 which describes the procedure for window adjustment on model 129.
Figure 1 Check proper fit and adjustment of window (arrows, positions 1 and 2, Figure 1) with door and window closed The window can be adjusted at points indicated by arrows in positions 3-10 in Figure 1 (see Procedure).
Procedure
1. Install hardtop, if removed.
2. Remove interior door panel (job no. 72-100).
3. Remove lower body protection panel (job no. 88-800).
4. Remove speaker group and air passage.
5. Remove protective plastic liner from door.
6. Remove inner and outer sealing rail (job no. 72-160 and 72-170, respectively).
7. Adjust door if necessary (job no. 72-050).
8. Loosen guide piece screw and push downwards.
9. Remove rubber plugs and loosen both 13 mm nuts. Turn 5.5 mm adjustment bolts so that the screws of the guide rail are in the middle of the guide bracket.
10. Adjust window with the front and rear sliding blocks so that in the lowered position, the window rests parallel and in the middle of the window channel (9 mm from door inner metal panel).
Note: The lateral gap (tension) is increased by pushing the blocks upward and decreased when the blocks are pushed downward.
11. Loosen front upper stop bracket nut.
12. Loosen rear upper stop bracket nut.
13. Close window until leading edge of window is flush with the exterior rearview mirror bracket.
14. If the window is correctly adjusted, the upper edge of the window should contact the inner lip of the window seal along its entire length.
15. Tighten front and rear nuts on upper stop bracket. Recheck window adjustment to assure position did not change during tightening.
Note: Adjustments can be made by moving the rear screw of the window lifting guide rail and at the front stop for the upper travel limitation.
The inclination and longitudinal position of the window can be adjusted by loosening the three screws on the window lifting rail (three lower arrows).
16. If previously loosened, tighten front and rear screws on window lifting rail.
17. Install outer and inner sealing rail.
18. Adjust lateral inclination (preload) of window against the sealing frame of the hardtop using the 5.5 mm adjustment screws on the front and rear bearing block of the vertical guide rail, so that the upper leading edge of the window directly touches the window seal (with window in full up position and door is engaged to first latch). See step 9 and Figure 3 for view of front and rear inclination adjusters. Tighten 13 mm lock-nuts.
19. Adjust rear guide rail through oblong hole (arrow) so that when the door is completely closed, the vertical edge of the window touches the hardtop rubber seal along its entire length.
20. Adjust lower travel limitation by first adjusting the stop on the window lifter (arrow) and then on the lifter rail so that the upper edge of the window closes flush with the sealing rails.
21. Adjust stop on window lifter rail so that the limit switch (S21/8 right side, S21/9 left side) in the bottom door recess engages simultaneously when the window is completely lowered.
22. Adjust guide piece by moving screw in oblong hole (arrow) so that when the window is in the full up position, the vertical edge of the window touches the guide piece.
23. After completing all the adjustment procedures, coat all sliding surfaces of the window guide rails with MB Lubricating Paste (part no. 001 989 14 51).
24. Reinstall door trim by performing steps 5 through 2.
