Parking Brake System: Adjustments

300SE & SEL

1. Loosen each LH and RH shouldered bolt from rear axle.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Rotate wheel until threaded hole, from which the shouldered bolt has been removed, faces forward and up at about a 45° angle on models with diagonal swing axle and exactly forward on models with diagonal swing axle and starting torque compensation.
4. Insert suitable screwdriver through hole of wheel rim brake disc and rear axle shaft flange. Engage screwdriver with adjustment star and turn adjusting star until star can no longer be turned. Turn back adjusting star 2-3 teeth. Turn adjusting star as follows:
a. On models with diagonal swing axle, (LH side), from bottom to top.
b. On models with diagonal swing axle, (RH side), from top to bottom.
c. On models with diagonal swing axle and starting torque compensation, (LH side), from back to front.
d. On models with diagonal swing axle and starting torque compensation, (RH side), from front to back.

300CE, D, E & TE

1. Loosen adjusting screw, ensure expanding locks are not preloaded, if so equipped.
2. Loosen each left and right collar bolt at rear axle.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Turn wheel until bolt hole from which the collar bolt was removed is about 45° in rearward upper direction.
5. Insert suitable screwdriver through brake disc and rear axle flange and into adjusting star. Turn adjusting star until star can no longer be turned.
6. Turn adjusting star back 2-3 teeth.
7. Turn adjusting start as follows:
a. Left side, from bottom to top.
b. Right side, from top to bottom.
