C. Engine 104 - Engine 119

Models 124, 129, 140

1. Reclaim and recycle A/C refrigerant.

2. Remove radiator fan cowl (model 129 only).

3. Remove engine compartment encapsulation panels.

4. Release tension and remove poly-V-belt.

5. Remove air cooling duct for left engine mount, level control oil supply line from oil pan to pump and oil line for engine oil cooler (model 124 only).





6. Disconnect 3-pole connector (A9X1) on A/C compressor.

7. Disconnect torsion bar at forward mounts. Replace self-locking nuts and bolts (models 124, 140 only).

8. Remove screw (14) securing suction/discharge line to manifold.

Tightening torque: 23 +/- 2.3 Nm (124, 129) 17 +/- 3 Nm (140).

9. Remove bolts (7). Tightening torque: 23 Nm.

10. Remove A/C compressor downwards.

11. Remove manifold. Remove shipping plate from remanufactured unit only after releasing pressure via the schrader valve. Install manifold and new O-rings onto remanufactured unit.

12. Correct oil level in compressor (compensate for oil loss if additional components were replaced).

13. Reinstall in reverse sequence.

Note:
If clutch must also be replaced, see section H.

14. Replace receiver/drier (SMS, Job No. 83-540).

15. Evacuate and recharge A/C system. Run engine at idle for approximately four minutes and check for proper function and leaks (SMS, Job No. 83-508).
