Without Passenger Side Airbag
Installing Handset1. Remove carpeting from center console.
2. Cut out opening for handset cord along perforations (Fig. 3). If perforations are not visible cut out opening according to specified dimensions.
Note: Dimensions are given in mm.
3. Punch a small hole (arrow, Fig. 3) through the upper left recess in the front area of the center console.
4. Place white wire clip on handset cord (approximately 3 coils from connector) and connect clip to left side of metal handset bracket.
5. Remove tape from fixed harness connector and plug-in handset cord connector to fixed connector (accessable through opening).
6. Place cradle bracket in console. Fasten bracket to console at punched hole (1, Fig. 4).
7. Place carpeting over bracket and trim as needed (for handset cord and bracket ends).
8. Using an awl, locate the two cradle fastening holes on the bracket. Punch out holes in carpeting using a fabric punch. Install carpeting.
9. Fasten cradle to bracket with two screws. Place handset in cradle.
Perform the following on vehicles produced prior to October 1991.
10. Remove radio.
Models 124.090/290 only
a. Remove ashtray.
b. If an intermediate 3-pole connector is installed between the vehicle harness and ashtray, reinstall ashtray.
If there is no intermediate connector, locate the two 3-pole connectors behind the ashtray bracket and connect them between the ashtray and vehicle harness. Reinstall ashtray.

11. Remove 5-pole connector from rear of radio. Check pin layout. Pin 4 of the connector should be a BK/YL wire, pin 3 - GN/BK.
12. Reconnect 5-pole connector to radio ensuring that the wires enter from the top of the connector.
13. Reinstall radio.
